Title Synchrotron Radiation Facilities as Dark Photon Factories: A Parasitic Search for WISPs
Abstract I will present a low-cost experimental proposal for dark photon searches at synchrotron radiation facilities such as SPring-8, NanoTerasu, and the Photon Factory. Specifically, I will discuss a calculation of the sensitivity to dark photons, taking into account the undulator structure, matter effects, and detector structure, and show that the conventional oscillation formula fails in the heavy mass range. By positioning a photon detector outside the shielding used in the primary experiments, it becomes possible to conduct a sustainable dark photon search that coexists with ongoing synchrotron operations. This approach has the potential to achieve world-leading sensitivity in a light-shining-through-a-wall experiment probing the heavy dark photon mass range. Interestingly, the current radiation safety regulations at these facilities already provide the strongest existing constraints among those obtained in laboratory experiments. If time permits, I will also discuss the axion case.
