Title | Fundamental symmetry tests in the lepton sector |
Abstract | The observation of neutrino oscillation implies that neutrinos have mass. The quest to understand the origin of the neutrino mass lies at the forefront of intensity, energy and cosmic frontiers. One key approach to probe the neutrino nature is fundamental symmetry tests in the lepton sector such as lepton number and charged-lepton flavor conservation. Neutrinoless double beta decay is the process that violates lepton number by two units. It can occur if the neutrino has a Majorana mass, which is realized by introducing right-handed neutrinos. The mass range of the hypothetical particles is spreading depending on various phenomenological motivations. In this talk, I will discuss systematic analyses of the neutrinoless double beta decay based on effective field theory with the light right-handed neutrinos and show its application to a realistic model. |
